“I can´t” or “I don´t want” … are simply a choice

Our words are very valuable and our subconscious mind interprets them in a way that may prove to be an impediment to our progress.

We can raise awareness about expressions we use and correct patterns that limit us .

In order to achieve all those goals that you would like to accomplish  – weight loss, progress at work, improve your relationships etc …  it is not just about taking action, sometimes no matter how much action we take, we are actually repeating patterns that bring us always the same results which leads to frustration.   There are many reasons why this can happen and of course each individual responds differently, but let me now help you to overcome one of the patterns that virtually runs like a virus in the society in which we live.

If we want to succeed in life, there are things we have to stop doing. Maybe everyone here should analyze their own situation and take inventory of what we are practicing and also about what  we aren´t doing anything about .

For example: We need to stop overeating, exercise more, stop spending time on things that don´t matter etc …

Many people find it hard to stay motivated to adopt new habits, but it is even more difficult to get rid of old habits. The latter is actually what keeps us from becoming the person you really we want to be. We need help – we need strategies that really work. It doesn´t matter how much willpower you have, willpower by itself is not the key to success, it is only a small percentage. Fortunately, there are strategies in energy psychology that work and can help us to change and adopt new habits to remove highly limiting programs that are constantly repeated throughout our lives. For now we’ll start to observe the language that we speak.

Imagine that you have started a diet, and you are enjoying a meal with healthy food at a good restaurant. Suddenly you decide to ask for the bill and the waiter comes and tells you:

        ” Did You know, we have an amazing chocolate cake in our dessert menu?
          it is actually our specialty
          Would you care to try it? “

We are tempted 🙂 and start thinking Yes! No! Yes! No!

No! No! No! “I can´t eat chocolate cake.”  No! I can´t! 
I CAN´TTTTTTTT!!!

Even though we have the choice to say:

Thank you, I don´t eat chocolate Cake.
I don´t want Chocolate cake. 

We usually say I Can´t.–  

If you think that there is no difference between both expressions I can´t and I don´t want, you are mistaken.   I can´t and  I don´t want may seem very similar in significance, however psychologically they are totally different. 

Psychologists and researchers at the Universities of Boston and Houston confirm that even the subtle differences in language can have a big effect on our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. I do not want is experienced as an option where there is leadership. It is a statement of your determination and willpower. However , I can not, is not an option – it is a restriction, you impose on yourself. So think ” I can not” weakens your personal power .

The difference between thinking ” I can not” and ” I do not want ” can be quite dramatic.

 In a research students with a target on healthy eating, they were instructed to, when faced with a temptation, to say to themselves, I do not want to do X or I can not do X (for example, I can not eat sweets – No I  don´t want to eat sweets).

Right after they left the laboratory, they were told they could as a thank you for participating in the study, choose a chocolate bar or a granola bar. Do you know who chose the healthier option? 64% of those who said that I would not, compared to only 39% of those who said they can not.

They have also conducted several studies with a group of women who have difficulty in being motivated and going to the gym, eating a healthy nutrition. The results were transformational.  1 out of 10 women who chose I can´t, did not continue in the program but the remaining 9 followed the strategy and achieved their objectives.

This is a very easy to follow strategy – every time you catch yourself thinking I can´t do this, I can´t assist to… etc… change it with I don´t want to…..:)

Remember that you have choice. When you decide what you want or what you don´t want it is simply entirely up to you, you just have to figure out the choices that you have.  It is easy to get lost when you have always practised I can´t

It´s time you OWN YOUR POWER back again, and now, you know where to start from!!!
